Observing the Build

Benefits of Using Timber for Your Bridge Project

Whether you are needing to build a bridge that can accommodate those walking on foot or the weight of vehicles driving over it, a timber bridge may be the perfect solution. For individuals that are currently evaluating their options for building a bridge on their property, it is important to weigh some of the most important benefits that can come with opting to build the bridge out of timber rather than metal or masonry.

1. Aesthetics

A timber bridge will have a classic look to it that can make it easy to complement almost any landscaping or building design. Furthermore, individuals will have a lot of options when it comes to the level of ornateness that they want. Timber bridges can be designed to have elaborate architectural designs that will allow the bridge to serve as a highlight for the landscaping or these bridges can be minimalist so that they will not be as noticeable.

2. Ease of Construction

When it comes to bridge construction, speed will often be important as the bridge may be needed for the area to be easily accessible. Luckily, timber bridges will have among the shortest construction times. Depending on the size of the bridge, it may be possible for a contractor to start and finish this project in a single day. However, if you are needing a larger bridge constructed or one that has a more elaborate design, it will likely take up to several days to be completed. In many instances, the time that is needed for the bridge's concrete anchors to cure and set may be among the most time-consuming parts of building one of these bridges.

3. Durability

Individuals will often assume that timber bridges will not be a durable option due to the threat of the wood rotting. However, the wood used during construction will be treated so that it will be highly resistant to damage from rotting. Furthermore, if you are making sure to have the bridge treated with a protective sealant every few years, you will likely find that the bridge may be able to last for a couple of decades before it needs to undergo major renovations or repairs. The amount of time that the bridge is exposed to moisture will also be a major factor in determining its lifespan. For example, if you are building the bridge over a small creek, it will suffer wear far more quickly than a bridge that is built in an area that will be dry for the majority of the time.

About Me

Observing the Build

A few weeks ago, we were driving past a construction site. We actually turned around and went back to take a closer look. From the roadside, we were amazed by how much we could observe. We saw cranes lifting heavy pieces of steel. We saw construction workers putting up walls, and others moving soil. All at once, we realized just how much work construction really is. And in that moment, we knew we had to start this blog about construction. We did not waste any time creating it, and now it stands as a resource for anyone else who wants to learn more about the industry.
